The dermatologist's gold standard SPF. La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 is the first sunscreen to protect against ultra-long UVA rays (UVA1, 380-400nm) thanks to Mexoryl 400, a filter patented by L'Oreal. Most sunscreens only protect against UVB + short UVA. This one covers the full spectrum. The texture is invisible, lightweight, and leaves no white cast. Added niacinamide provides barrier support. At 18 EUR it's not the cheapest, but it's the most advanced sun protection you can buy without prescription. When dermatologists say 'wear SPF daily,' this is the SPF they mean.
How to use
Apply generously (2 finger lengths for face) as last step of AM routine, after moisturiser. Reapply every 2 hours if outdoors. Let it set for 2-3 minutes before makeup. Works under all foundations. Can be used year-round, not just summer.
Who is it for?
Best for: everyone. Literally everyone should wear SPF daily. Especially good for: hyperpigmentation, melasma (UVA1 is the main trigger), post-procedure, anti-aging. The fragrance-free version exists for sensitive skin.
What to expect
Immediate: sun protection. Long-term: prevention of sun damage, hyperpigmentation, premature aging. SPF is the #1 anti-aging product - more effective than any serum. You won't see dramatic results because it prevents damage rather than treating it.
Common mistakes
1. Not applying enough (most people use 1/4 of the needed amount). 2. Not reapplying every 2h outdoors. 3. Thinking cloudy days don't need SPF (80% of UV passes through clouds). 4. Only using it in summer. 5. Relying on SPF in makeup (not enough coverage).
FAQ
Chemical vs mineral SPF?
How it compares
LRP has Mexoryl 400 (ultra-long UVA protection, unique). BOJ has rice bran + niacinamide in a dewy finish. LRP is more advanced technologically. BOJ is more cosmetically elegant and cheaper. For maximum protection, LRP wins. For daily wear under makeup, BOJ is excellent too.
